Itโs Sunday and we all need to chill out! Why not chill out while listening to KLFโs chill out classic โChill Outโ? โ Sorry what, you have never heard of the KLF? The Kopyright Liberation Front a.k.a the Kings of Low Frequency had a couple of No. 1 chart hits in the 90ies, wrote a book about how to have a No. 1 hit the easy way, and made a loooot of ๐ฐ money ๐ต through their music. They also spent a looooot of ๐ฐ in the most controversial ways, e.g. by burning GBP 1โ000โ000 in a fire ๐ฅ while filming ๐น it or by rewarding Rachel Whiteread with a dubious award of GBP 40โ000 for โworst artist of the yearโ, right after sheโs won a Turner Prize of GBP 20โ000 for โbest artist of the yearโ. These days, people donโt do that kind of crazy/funny stuff no more!

You are privileged. Just reading this sentence makes you part of the 85% of the ๐๐๐ population that is literate, the 20% that understands ๐ฌ๐ง English, and the 40% that has access to the ๐ป internet. Visual communication is not an even playing field, but is dominated by the urban regions, primarily in the Northern hemisphere. The design of visual communication is shaped by the designersโ cultural and political bias. Designers themselves are often unaware of this. Ruben Paterโs book The Politics of Design shows the cultural and political bias of visual communication using visual examples.

The Bravo archiv team asked themselves how they could make a small contribution to make these difficult times a little bit nicer. Therefore they made their BRAVO issues available for free โจ. And to make sure that every generation gets something out of it, there is one issue from each year. From 1956 to 1994 you can download the first issue free of charge. Furthermore there is a BRAVO star cut ๐บ. So once again dig out the scissors โ๏ธ and glue sticks and start tinkering!

Not only in times of a crises ๐ฆ are our lives are dominated by an ever growing consumption of ๐ฐ news media, both fake and real and everything in โฐ between. Roughly 25 years ago, German filmmaker ๐ฅ Harun Farocki sat down with Czech-born philosopher, writer and journalist Vilรฉm Flusser (๐ & ๐ถ) to discuss the front page of Germanyโs leading tabloid newspaper Bild. The resulting 13 minutes film is a fascinating conversation about the power of media, the relationship between image and text and therefore about graphic design in general.

Yโall must be bored by now from listening to too much SRF 1๏ธโฃ, 2๏ธโฃ, and 3๏ธโฃ (mostly 3๏ธโฃ = ๐คข!). With a bit of luck youโll catch Couleur 3 at your house, but even thenโฆ Radio Garden collects over 8000 radio ๐ก stations from all over the ๐๐๐. Just spin the globe and teleport yourself to the destination of your choice. Developed by ๐ Jonathan Puckey, running on โค๏ธ Kirby.

Ok, so we all spend the majority of our โฑ inside apartments or โ if youโre lucky โ houses, surrounded by things. This might as well be the best moment to dive into the book Arranging Things โ A Rethoric of Object Placement, simply and beautifully written by Leonard Koren alongside equally charming paintings by Nathalie du Pasquier. Arranging Things considers the placement of objects in three-dimensional composition as a form of rhetoric: persuasive communication. In the 70ies, Koren published the now infamous magazine ๐ง WET โ The Magazine of Gourmet Bathing ๐, perfectly archived here. Nathalie du Pasquier is a designer, sculptor and painter as well as one of the founding members of the Memphis movement. Should you not be familiar with her work, then A) shame on you and B) now is the time to catch up!

Why not skip โ Tatort โ tonight and watch โUmbruchโ by Hans-Ulrich Schlumpf instead? The year is 1985, and Akeret AG in Bassersdorf, a printer and publisher of a small local ๐ฐ, exchanges its Lintotype department with cutting-edge photo-typesetting machinery, much to the chagrin of its employees. Shortly after, Ruppert Murdoch fires more than 5000 printers and typesetters in London ๐ฌ๐ง because they were on strike โ against the introduction of the new typesetting and printing technology. โUmbruchโ is a unique document, and with ๐ฅ by Pio Corradi and ๐ต by Bruno Spoerri, whatโs more to ask?

Herb Lubalin (1918โ1981) was one of the most prolific ๐บ๐ธ American designers of the 20th century and many of his typefaces and logos are still widely in use today. After his death, he donated his vast collection of works of post-war graphic design to the Cooper Union in NY who transformed it into a generous and productive archive, the Lubalin Study Center. At this center you'll find, amongst many other things, huge file cabinets, and they let you open the Sandberg drawer, which is right on top of the Vignelli drawer, etc. Unfortunately we cannot go to NY right now, but we can browse their Flickr (yes!) albums of type specimens and other gems. Bravo!
